2007 Honda Civic EX 1.8L 5spd Auto. Sump holds 3.9 quarts. Amsoil EA oil filter used. NAPA GOLD / WIX air filter left untouched for the past 2 OCIs. (changed it with the new fill since Silicon is creeping up) I told Blackstone that i'll be using the "Signature Series" oil with the next fill, hence their 11k recommendation based on that and the previous UOA reports on SSO. However, I ended up putting in OE 0w20 at the last minute for the winter run instead of AZO 0w30 as planned because i figured that the 20 weight would be a better choice. thumbsup Aprox 1/4 quart was added about mid way through the interval (as i always do) to top things off and bring the oil level up to full for the remainder of the OCI. Looks like Amsoil's 10,000 mile recommendation with the XL line is pretty dead on, as TBN would be touching 1.0 had i ran this another 1,000 miles. TAN looks a little high (starts out in the 3.6ish i assume) but i'm not too worried about it. The block is Super Shiny, while looking through the filler hole. Thoughts, Comments?

Great report, but I wouldn't go to 11k miles from 9.5k with only 1.9 TBN left, stopping and doing a 10k OCI leaves a little room for variables to happen, like increased wear, too high of a TAN or a faster depletion of active additive. Stopping at 9k would leave even more room for variables, and 9-10k miles is a good turn out from Amsoil's mid grade synthetic, nice car/UOA.

LOL OldCowboy, Do you have this ready and typed and just copy and paste on every UOA? Great run Artem, appreciate the post and agree the XL is a very good oil.

I noticed that the iron and aluminum we higher when using the M1, is this an indication that the aimsoil protected the engine against wear better?

I thought so too. curious by the low iron too.

I have to agree. I was planning to push the XL to 10k but figured to leave some room for error and see how the oil is doing after 9k to see if it can safely make it to 10k next time.

LOL I was thinking the same thing. He posts the EXACT SAME phrase in every 20 weight thread.

Some say it is so but other will argue that it's just small variations in the UOA report and that it doesn't technically show that oil 1 protected better then oil 2. shrug

I have noticed that M1 produces a couple more PPM wear in UOA's compared to other oils, but a 2ppm difference is hardly noticeable.

No.

I'm faily new to all this and am trying to study up and decide which oil I'm going to use in my new Chevy Cruze 1.4 turbo.

Thanks, good info. I know I have to use DEXOS 1 approved but thats only a syn blend. I'm trying to decide if I should go with M1, Aimsoil or Pennzoil Ultra.

I think only the M1 and the PU are approved DEXOS 1 oils from that list.

I hope so. It's an awesome little engine. Here's a few pics that i forgot to post in the OP. This is a Magnetic oil drain bolt. It always collects this amount of metal bits. They are so tiny that it looks like sludge but since it sticks to the magnet, it has to be metal shavings. NOTE: This is not an el cheapo bolt from autozone. This is an $80 high quality drain bolt. The set i bought came with a transmission bolt as well which collects EVEN MORE shavings.

Here's some more info regarding the OLM on the Civic, or MM (Maintenance Minder) as Honda calls it. @ 15% oil life (this is when the maintenance light first comes on) mileage was 7,100 miles on the oil. @ 5% mileage was 7,801 @ 0% mileage was 8,211 Oil was finally sampled / drained with the meter @ -931 miles past 0% oil life, for a total of 9,148 miles on the oil.
