I need to change oil soon. Is Amsoil 0w30 thick/durable enough for the midwest summer weather and spirited drving once in a while? Is S2k more expensive than ASL 5w30?

Why not use Amsoil 3000 5w30. It is shear stable and can be run for long drains and will keep your engine clean. This seems to be Amsoil best oil
the wear seems to be higher with 3000. that is what i saw from the numbers on the amsoil website.
I thought about using this oil but one would really have to look at whether it's worth using an oil that is over $8qt vs Mobil 1 Extended Performance @ $5.50 or so quart. S3k is top shelf oil, but on a price/performance measure, I don't think it will beat Mobil 1 Extended Performance.

Buster is right on. I just don't see the value. Great looking oil and perhaps may be better than the Mobil 1 Extended Performance.. but that much better?
Dealer Cost per gallon is $26.60 plus tax and shipping for the S 2K 0W-30.

With all due respect to the many pundits here on the board, the AMSOIL 0w30 is probably the best oil on the market for any application calling for a xW-30.
It will work for extremely high and extremely low temperatures. It will last for many thousands of miles.
Is it more expensive than the regular AMSOIL? Sure, about $10 a year per engine. To me, that is well worth it. To my son-in-law, an extra 50-60 miles per tankful more than made up the extra cost (if he had had any, since he took it from my stock).

Exactly what I was to say. Let's see here and the calculator. Ok I'm getting 23MPG with Amsoil 10w30. Now when I changed out to Amsoil 0w-30, I notice a difference. I was geting 24 and some tanks of 25MPG. I'm driving 90 hiway/10 city.
On a 12,000 miles per yearly change, I'd say I'm saving at least $8 a quart. I use 5 qts for year.

Anyway I have been using the Amsoil 0w30 since it's inception.
An excellent oil that has served me quite well.
I am currently using it in my '04 Acura TL. I feel that the 5W-20 spec for Honda and Ford come from meeting or making higher
pollution reduction requirements as well as some mpg gains.
Thinner oil warms up faster allowing for the anti pollution devices in our cars to work faster. When an engine is not up to operating temp the anti pollution devices do not work.
So since the 0w30 is a energy saving oil and meant for severe service, long lasting, covers both high and low temps, it IMHO is just the ticket for me.

I have been using the S2K 0w30 for a while now and it has been worth the money. My fuel economy has consistently be better (1-1.5 mpg) since I started using this oil in my Maxima.
How does thinner warm up faster?,usually the coolant temperature is what the computer / sensors use for emission related devices.
The thinner oil may circulate and warm up faster, but this shouldn't have much of an effect on coolant temps.
