Skip the Amsoil flush, but do an AutoRx clean. Then switch to Amsoil. Do 6 months/6K - with analysis, then more than likely you can go 1 year, 12K miles, easy.

If it has been changed on a regular basis and it were me, I'd just swich. Anything much over 60K say 70 or 80K, yes then I'd do a purge and anything over 100-120K or so than something HD. IMO, you are at the Max time before a flush would be required.... just go for the change.

Noobie here! I have a question about the Amsoil Engine Cleaner. I have a 99 Toyota 4Runner with 60K miles and am wanting to switch to a synthetic motor oil and lubes all the way around. I am un-decided between Mobil 1 and Amsoil, but that is another subject. I see that Amsoil recommends that the engine be flushed to prepare the internals for the synthetics. But I have read on posts that this could be a bad thing. Can anyone give me some input? Should I flush or just switch? Not to start a [Dual] here, but Amsoil or Mobil 1? Here is some info. I drive the 4Runner on the weekends and am only driving 12K miles a year (mostly highway) in the SE US, and no offroading. Cost not being a factor, what are your opinions? Thanks!!!

Been using the AMSOIL engine flush ever since it came out. Reduced the complaints about excess oil consumption after change by about 75%. If you don't, or won't, flush, keep an eye on the dipstick. If you note a sudden increase in oil consumption, it is probably because the synthetic has been cleaning and carrying stuff to the filter. Change filter, top off and continue. If the oil seems exceptionally dirty, then change the first batch after 3-4,000 miles. AMSOIL (or BG) engine flush will do a good job in a short period. AutoRX apparently (I have no hands-on experience) does an excellent job over a longer period.

Steve, What does the Toyota manual say is allowable? I would vote for the Amsoil ASL 5w-30 or the ATM 10w-30. As for the Mobil 1 in our climate, go with the 10w-30. Its your choice based on whether or not you mind ordering on online or you love going to WalMart or AutoZoo. As for the flush, I agree with Pablo about using the AutoRx as the preferred method. If cost is an issue, the Amsoil Engine Cleaner is the only solvent based product on the market that I would use. Definately do a flush before going to the synthetic. I used the Amsoil Engine Cleaner when I switched to synthetic oil about 3 years ago. Good luck.

I go by the 5/50 rule with the Amsoil engine flush - if the engine is more than five years old or has more than 50,000 miles on it, I'd strongly recommend flushing it. This is true even if you have been changing oil every 3000 miles. Change just the filter, add the flush and fast idle the engine @ 2x the normal idle speed for 20-25 minutes. I take a piece of cordwood or a piece of cement block and ease it on the gas pedal until I get the right rpms on the tach .... Don't drive the car with the flush in the engine - it will thin out the oil by about one SAE grade. Tooslick
