This is the filter off my first run of @High Performance Lubricants in the 1500. This is the "Overkill" Euro (A40/502 00) 0W-20, run for 11,144km (6,924 miles). July 7th, 2022 to January 6th, 2023, so through the summer and ending in the winter.

This vehicle has had M1 EP 0W-20 since new and was switched to HPL at 59,018km (36,661 miles).

But there's a surprise in the bottom of the can. Carbonaceous material, in suspension @wwillson:

But it wasn't all in suspension. There was a "glob" of it in the centre of the can under the spring that was able to wipe off with my finger, but it had a consistency that was like grease:

I drained the filter a bit more:

You can see the "goop" in these ones quite well:

Wiped off with a paper towel:

I took a strong magnet to it and the oil, nothing ferrous in it.

Media glue was a bit sloppy:

Doing the @ZeeOSix paper towel trick to dry it out (BTW, that other filter Zee, it's STILL draining, though I must confess to not changing the paper towel in months) and will cut and lay out when that's done.

That black goop is probably dirt that was freed up from the piston rings. I don't know of any other oil that can free that up so fast and so efficient.

I changed the oil in my wife's brand new Jeep GC at less than 2000 miles. I'll change it again soon and I'm curious what HPL Premium Plus PCMO 0W-20 cleans out of a brand new engine. Lucky for me, I don't have to cut the filter open, since it's a Pentastar engine.

Wow! Impressive from an engine that has only been run on a premium brand syn.
Did you change the oil? Or just the filter and top off?

I was wondering what happened to that media wicking experiment. 😄

Or take the media out and press it in a vice to get almost all the oil out.

Wonder if the goop will come back with another fill of this oil or if it will no longer goop up anymore. 🤔

Thanks for the C&P OK.

The guts of that amsoil filter look like an ultra ?????

Did prior inspections show the same black goo?

A bit different, here's the last XG I cut apart from the same vehicle:
No black goo. It did have soot-like carbon in the oil though, which is normal for this engine family.

The EaO is wire-backed synthetic media sourced from Donaldson (Synteq).

Do you have other filters that were cut open on this vehicle prior to running HPL to compare against?

Yeah dude, look at the post right above yours, lol. There are others. I C&P most of the filters off both vehicles.
