A anonymous member graciously sent me this oil filter. Looks pretty solid. Aside from baseplate rust I’d use it if I had a vehicle that specified it.

Made in Mexico also January 26, 2010 and time is 17:25

Louvers look a lot better than the ones I received (originally, prior to @Pablo getting me new ones). These filters are shipped naked in a cardboard box, so if they sit around in a humid environment, I could definitely see opportunity for rust on the baseplate.

Great looking construction, and that's supposed to be the premium Donaldson Synteq media. Would you mind pulling the media apart to see if there is more than one layer?

I will try to do this

So was finally able to pull wire backing off. Dark spots are from where earlier today I tried to light the filter media. Didn’t burn hardly.

So to post what I learned:

Filter media is thick, but I could tear it apart very easily.

Took some effort to pull endcaps off also.

I would use filter even if it’s 2010 made as this one is solid. Cheers 🍻👍🇺🇸🇨🇦

Yeah, IIRC, the Donaldson media is microglass, so shouldn't really burn. Other filters use a polymer, which should light up.

You guys are being awful lenient on these louvers, it looks to me like some of them are not open all the way and are deformed. This one doesn't seem to be as bad as some and I suppose it will still pass enough oil thru to be ok. Making that nylon cage look better and better to me.
