This is just an observation and not a knock on Amsoil etc but I visited my local distribution center to retrieve some product today and they have a new center manager. Now granted, the vast majority of the people a center deals with are dealers, preferred customers and not the general public but there was a customer there to pick up some XL 7500 5W20.

While the three of use were discussing he oil I mentioned that the XL series was not a true synthetic anymore and the manager said whoa, what you mean, they told me that all their products were synthetic. So I went on to explain. What I found interesting was that the new manager seemed to know very little about the products, probably less then the customers and certainly less then most dealers. Guess it doesn't matter for the manager of the distribution center to just be a paper pusher and not know what he is pushing out the door.

Anyway, thought I would pass that observation along.

Maybe he should have a name tag on that says, "I'm in Training" so we don't forget you can't learn everything about a job, product, and industry in a short amount of time.

Talk to the guy who works in the Automotive section of Walmart sometimes, where most folks buy their Mobil 1. Ask him the difference in the basestock and additive package of the GF-4 Mobil 1 and their new Extended Performance oil.

I'm guessing you'll get the same blank stare I did recently ...

I wouldn't expect the distribution center manager to know anything about the product.

He should know how to effective stock and distribut products. He should be effective in training his workforce to effeciently get my orders out the door ASAP. This would go a long way in helping me take care of my customers.

I personally have never been to the Richmond Warehouse, but I've ordered $1000's worth of product that was shipped out of there when I lived in Virginia Beach. I always got my order in a timely manner and in good condition. That is all that I can ask for.

My biggest gripe is that AMSOIL Dealers don't have the product knowledge, they are the ones selling it.

I haven't needed to rely on the dist. center for product knowledge.

My local one in Portland, OR is really great at shipping.

However - I can say I have run across so really goofy centers and strange pick-up policies.

Quick question,

I drive through Richmond a 2-3 times a year for work. If I am preferred customer can I pick up a few cases of oil there and save on the shipping cost?

If so this makes the decision of Amsoil vs. Mobil 1 EP in the future a real easy one for me.

Yes you can. I was a preferred customer and got my oil there. Easy to find from I-64.
