For the last year and 5 months I have been running Amsoil ASL 5W-30 in my Nissan V6 3.5L and my Honda V6 3.5L. I drive about 8K miles/yr (short in town trips and maybe 1 road trip) on the Nissan and >12K miles/yr (short in town trips, long road trips, and
The Nissan has 15K on the odo and the Honda has 26K on the odo.

Since you're changing Amsoil on the basis of time rather than mileage, I'd stick with the 5w-30. The 5w-30 now meets the most stringent ACEA, A3/B4 specifications and the high temp properties have been significantly improved with the last formulation upgrade last year. For example, Noack Volatility (high temp evaporation), has been reduced from 7% to only 5.1%. So you should see reduced oil consumption and better viscosity retention over long drain intervals.

The Amsoil 0w-30 will certainly work well in both these motors, but I don't think it will be more cost effective with the relatively short drain intervals you are doing.
