Amsoil and Amzoil

What year did Amzoil change their name to Amsoil? and why did it they change it?

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that Pennzoil had a problem with them using a z in their name as they felt it was too close to their name, so that's why it got changed.

Back (1970's) when Al had a very controversial legal argument with Pennzoil. Al actually changed the name to Amsoil - and later won the legal case. I guess he didn't want to change the name back or there are some hidden details.

The company had grown so large in the years that it took for the suit to run it course, the to change back would have likely hurt business. More people new of Amsoil than ever new of Amzoil.
