I have an AMSOIL TS110, rectangular, air filter for my 1994 Pontiac Grand Am. It's past time to clean & re-oil, forgot to write it down!

The filter was installed Jul-4-2003.

The AMSOIL foam filter oil bottle just says to wash filter in detergent. Can I wash it in Dawn/warm water? I saw on here that Simple Green was mentioned, but what about other detergents?

I'm going to let it dry for 24 hours & then reoil. The bottle is marked in 1 oz increments. How many ounces of oil should I use? How should it be applied?

Thanks.

what I do is wash it in hot water with dish soap. so I guess dawn will work.

Then I let it dry 24 hrs. I will reoil it using plenty of oil and squishing it throughout the whole filter. Then I will let is set another 24hrs on a paper towel the way it will be sitting in the car. Most of the excess will then have worked it's way down to the paper towel. You will then be good to go.

Hope this helps.

It can be messy. They just came out with a spray this month that should make for getting more even coverage.

In the past, I wash them in a 5 gal pail of Dawn, let them dry in the sun. Then use a large plastic bag to re-oil it, that way there is not so much of a mess. I keep the OEM filter on hand to use while I do this. I often wait a week for the oil to settle out, not in any hurry.

On another subject. I just installed one of the ATV foam filters in my Honda Rancher. They ship those dry and you have to oil them. Man that was a real PIA to do the round type. Very hard to work that oil into all the pores. Almost a waste of time.

btw-Use the whole bottle if you have to. Better to use it all then to skimp.

Thanks for the replies. I wound up putting 2 oz of oil on the filter. It sure did look like plenty. I can see it on the metal side coming through slightly.

Ball park is 2 oz of oil per square foot of surface.
I also use a plastic bag to work the oil into the foam.

I noticed that the spray bottles are coming back.
One of the stated reasons for getting away from them was that users tended to spray the outside only, and not work the oil in--filtration suffered. The other reason was that the cost of the spray can was extremely high compared to cost of a bottle and oil.

I got a couple of the new spray cans last week, about $2 more. The oil is new and improved.

I think one of the reasons to go back to spray is ease of use. Many people are turned off be having to re-oil and any way to make it easier is better IMO. I know people who never clean theirs, they just buy a new one every couple of years and toss the old one. Money is no object for some.

Mike,

What's different about the new oil? Is AMS using two different oils - one for the bottle & one for the spray? I wouldn't imagine them doing this.
