Amsoil 75W-90 in 2005 Subaru 5 speed?

Just did an oil change in my daughter's 2005 Subaru Outback over the Thanksgiving visit.

I brought up enough GC 0w30 and PureOne filters for 2 oil changes.

But I had no place to change the oil, so I went to a local independent quick lube that seemed OK.

I was going to change the 5 speed over to Redline 75W-90 NS or Molakule's gear lube, but this shop had Amsoil so I asked if they had the correct gear lube for the 2005 Subaru 5 spped and if they had done other Subaru's and had good feedback.

He also agreed to change the gear lube for free if I decided it wasn't a good choice and I sent up a different synthetic.

So I tried the Amsoil 75W-90and it seems to shift well, slightly better than the factory fill and less notchy.

Now I'm looking for feedback.

The vehicle has 9600 miles on it and I planned on leaving the Amsoil 75W-90 in for 40K.

Is this synthetic gear lube OK for this transaxle?

Yes 75W-90 is specified. 40K will be easy.

I like the Amsoil 75W90 in mine when the weather is warmer, but since it's been cold (10-20 degrees) it shifts extremely hard when cold. I thought about trying Redline to see if it improved it any. I loved the Amsoil when it was warmer, and as thatwouldbegreat said, it shifts better than the factory fill once it's warmed up. However I'm not happy with the Amsoil when it's cold.

No problem. Funny that Sub would specify a 75W-90 and the shifting would be difficult with Amsoil synthetic 75W-90 in cold. What is factory fill? How is it in cold?

We have a Saab 92x which is a rebadged WRX with 5 speed. I put in 1 quart Amsoil MTF Synchromesh and fill the rest with Amsoil SVG 75w-90. If shifts extremely smooth between gears, more so than the factory oil. In the cold it is a little sticky but I think this should be expected with most manuals.
