Anyone seen any uptick in ammo availability? Not much change here. I'm stocked up so I won't be contributing to it anymore, but just curious what luck others are having. I may still buy a brick of .22 if I see it. But...I'm running out of places to stockpile and with another car to pay for, I guess I'm gonna quit worrying about the apocalypse for a few mos.

Ammunition suppliers say the shortage is due to several factors, including the sheer volume of ammunition heading overseas to fight wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But they also say the shortage — as well as a sharp rise in gun sales — coincided with the election of President Obama, fueled by fears his administration would usher in more restrictive gun laws.
"It started the day that Obama got elected," Johnny Dury, who owns Dury's Gun Shop in San Antonio, tells NPR's Michele Norris. "It is when everything just went crazy in the gun business."
Dury says people are buying guns as well as ammunition, creating a shortage of both. He says people are buying the guns to protect themselves because they perceive Obama's policies as socialist and rewarding those "people who are not working hard." They are also afraid, he says, of more restrictive gun laws.
"Everybody was scared he was going to take the ammo away or he was going to tax it out of sight on the prices," Dury says. "So people started stocking up, buying half a lifetime to a lifetime supply of ammo all at one time."
Atleast Obama will not have to bailout the ammo industry.

Slight uptick. I was talking to the guy in Sporting Goods in WM the other day and he told me he saw a box of .45ACP, the first he had seen in 3 months. I was able to get 2x 50rnd Remington UMC 9mm. It was the last two and they hadnt even gone into the lockup yet, lol.

Thanks...but I already knew the reasons. And most will tell you Iraq/Afgan Wars have nothing to do with it. Just curious to see if anyone is having any more luck in the last few weeks.

Thanks...but I already knew the reasons. And most will tell you Iraq/Afgan Wars have nothing to do with it. Just curious to see if anyone is having any more luck in the last few weeks.
I know where to get ammo, but I'm only going to buy it for the price it should be. I'm not paying $15 for a box of blazer brass 9mm
$12.47 is the going price of .40 BB at Wal-Mart. Gander RIPOFF wants $24.99. I dont' think so.
I wonder if the numbers scare the antigunners?
Just about everything is hard to come by here. Even .22s are hard to get.

I was told but haven't checked that the primers used in ammo are now traded as commodities, similar to oil? Any truth to this?

No shortages here in my neck of he woods, other than .223 primers. Everything else is readily available.

Plenty of gun-loving democrats chose to vote for neither, you mean, as it was a wash for them.
I'm buying 1800 rounds of 9mm JHP @ $15 per 50 count. FMJ/TMJ is still easy to come by, JHP, not so much (runs about $32/50 average.) Getting a great deal from another fellow gun nut in Canada.
Our prices are brutal, the magical 20% drop in the CAD to US dollar raised the prices overnight. Two years ago I swore off a Savage MKII lefty for $199, too pricey I said. Now I'm haggling dealers to get one out of older stock for $249.
I waited to get a Savage 10-FLCP, figured I'd wait to get a bit more money. Asking price then: $899. Dealers couldn't move them. Asking now: $1199 and up, lead time is a minimum of a month, most are quoting three to four, or more.

Was in a small gun shop the other day "last thursday" and supplies seem to be getting better. Had some of most everything except primers. WW is still out here tho.
