It looked like it did have that metal backing, and also it smelled like it was REALLY well built, like it smelled synthetic, these are made in the US anyways.
Time to get some "synthetic" 15w40 for the Jetta next week. Oh by the way thats the oil filter for 2014 2.0l jetta if anybody needs it.

Yeah the smell is different than wix filters that smell like old books.

I make sure to take every filter out of the box and take a nice, deep whiff to make sure they smell just right
