An RSX doesn't get really much better mpg's than my current GTI does and they tend to get overpriced on the used lot.

I mentioned the Accent GT because it's nimble and very efficient and cheap to own/maintain.Plus best of all it would be a flat trade so no car note.

Understood. Before you do any trading, consider other expenses such as sales tax

, insurance premiums, etc.

Define unproven. We are currently on our third Hyundai Elantra. Only thing you won't get out of it is trade-in value, and that has been increasing steadily. Also, last I checked Hyundai's weren't high on the Most popular stolen car list. The '05 GT Auto my parents drive gets 36 mpg and has everything, cd player, moon roof, upgraded suspension, leather, 16" rims, AC, the works. I think they paid around $14-15K. Just can't compare a stripped, bland looking corolla to a Elantra GT. Slap a tiburon sway bar on it and take it to Auto-X.

Just remember that if you buy used the warranty is cut down to 60K miles.

I totally agree; wifey's 2003 Elantra is really doing well so far. It has more of everything, and surely looks and feels better/exciting than a pretty lame looking Corolla, which as already stated, has pretty much the minimum standard. The Elantras are really "loaded" for their price.

OT:
...It'll be exciting to see how far the new Sonatas will go...they look pretty good, imo.

Ford used a similar design in the early-mid 90s for their cassette HUs...I saw the Blaupunkt HU they apparently got the idea from on Ebay. Two rows of buttons, display on the top left, cassette slot on the top right, and the cassette reverse/forward buttons on the top far right.

yep, I am torn also, I love my toyota truck but get 17-19mpg, so I am leaning heavily toward that corolla I was asking about in another post. I could more than double my gas mileage, I hear you on the MPG, I think with the way things are right now everyone is kind of in a panicky state. If you get a chance, check out the 2006 civic on Hondas website, it is a sweet car! upscale looking interior with navigation! looks great, even the sedan

Why on earth does someone need navagation on a car?

Both are fun as **** to drive but with the Hyundai with an excellent warranty and waaay better mpg's.

don't understand the figures, VW lacks reliability.

It won't have cruise control, or power windows/locks, but it will be reliable and more practical than a Hyundai.

As good as Hyundais are, they really are unproven and we really don't know how well they hold up over the long term.

Michael

I guess there have unproven reliabilty until you own one. I'm on my 2nd Hyundai. 1st car being 1998 Hyundai accent which is with my sister now and has 115,000 miles. never any problem.

My 1999 Hyundai Tiburon FX has over 100,000 miles. bought it when it had 50,000 miles. only had one problem.. and that was a messed up driver side power window. no engine troubles.

anyways.. to answer the question... I would find a used Hyundai Elantra GT. Standard Leather, bulletproof 2.0L, power everything and a stiffend suspension. for a 05 Hyundai Accent GT, you can buy a bare bones Elantra.. but the Bare bones Elantra has power everything.

A used version may be the best buy if Hyundai floats your boat. They are essentially worthless used, a very high depreciation car. If you buy new this is a serious consideration in my opinion especially for a car that you can easily tire of.

These figures reflect the total cost of ownership of a 5 year span for me.This figures is predominatly gas and maintainance. The VW consumes much more gas and will be more expensive actually by a more accurate $10k-$12k dollars vs the Accent GT over 5 years.

I still love my GTI though....
