All this talk about Moly got me thinkin'...

...why only a few oil manufacturers use it? Based in these forums, the only ones I know are Redline, Valvoline, and Schaeffer. I think I'm pretty much sold on the scientific data regarding MOS2 (as presented by Bob). I'm sure Bob will not tell us his magic mix of MOS2 and other additives, however, I'd like to know what chemical reactions occur that can lead to increased engine wear if that balance gets out of hand. Thanks, Oz

Nope. The recent oil analysis spreadsheet from Maxima.org shows a virgin sample of 5w30 GTX and there is 0 moly. Same with Syntec and the Syntec blend. [ August 02, 2002, 03:06 PM: Message edited by: Patman ]

Maybe my oil analysis from Terry Dyson indicates some Moly wear in the engine. I did use M1 5w30 a thousand miles before Castrol though. (Auto Rx treatment for 1K in between)

Hi, Just got back the analysis on Castrol Syntec 5W-50 from Blackstone.I'll post later on the Analysis site. Anyway, at 5,600 miles the MOLY reads 38 (Universal Average 37) Does that indicate there is MOLY? Ron
