Isn't this amazing, Tesla is doing worse than anytime in the last 5 years (or more) and its stock is selling at the highest multiple since around 2000Just saw this.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-sales-plunged-76-february-152605713.html
“ Tesla’s (TSLA) German sales fell 76% in February to 1,429 cars, a steeper decline than the 60% drop in January, Reuters reports. Earlier this week, data showed that Tesla also suffered major sales declines in Scandinavia and France in February from a year ago. “
I wonder if it would be enough for Elon to just distance himself from Tesla. No more marketing for Tesla. No more mention of Tesla from his lips. No sticking his fingers in the decisions. But I don't think that is in his nature. I suspect in a few months, when he gets bored with his current endeavor, he will be back to being involved in Tesla. His ego, and his desire to tweak everything, will not allow him to stay away.Musk could sell or divest. Then carry on with the good work. Plus it’s not like all business is gone.
From my own observations, I strongly doubt this. I see at least three separate groups of Tesla buyers. From my own observation, folks who drive Teslas are of a common demographic and mindset.

ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY times its earnings.
Meanwhile GM with better sales and earnings is less than 8 times earnings
Toyota less than eight times earnings
Either there is something we dont know yet or a lot of people are going to lose money like they have in the last 3 years of sideways movement. Unless you short term trade.
Yeah, Im waiting for that to happen. It will be interesting IF (and that is a big if) the tax credit goes away how the entire industry maybe affected.....
What would Tesla be today if there were zero EV tax credits ?
Not 1¢ from Gov ????
They don't need DOGE for that. Musk has already addressed that, and stated why he is in favor of eliminating the credit.Yeah, Im waiting for that to happen. It will be interesting IF (and that is a big if) the tax credit goes away how the entire industry maybe affected.
Haven't heard a peep from DOGE about the cost of giving Americans $7,500 to buy an EV. Im waiting for someone in the media to ask why? (we all know I think)
Kay reason for German decline is what you stated as “other reasons.” Y is distant other reason.@BHopkins another group is people like me who want to support the local economy and buy American if it makes sense.
@Dave Hess a key reason German sales were down is changeover to the new Model Y Juniper. Among other issues, of course...
Interesting times ahead. If stock and sales slides continue, and it appears likely, what will Musk do?
Absolutely. He is confident that Tesla owns market. Eliminating tax credit hurts much more other EV’s.They don't need DOGE for that. Musk has already addressed that, and stated why he is in favor of eliminating the credit.
An EO was signed on 1/20/25 to pave the way to doing just that. Legislation has been proposed to eliminate the credit, and another to impose a 1k fee at the time of purchase, since EV's don't contribute to road tax by purchasing fuel.
I don't on an EV but e have friends who do and they say they pay an additional tax yearly. They don't need DOGE for that. Musk has already addressed that, and stated why he is in favor of eliminating the credit.

Same here, I'm loyal to my wallet and if I can get a good deal I take it. Having said that there are certain brands and people I won't do business with no matter what. The fact of the matter is I don't dislike Bezos enough I guess. OTOH I'm liking Elon a lot lately but not enough to buy an EV, but that goes for any EV. Go figure.I can't stand Bezos but I had five Amazon deliveries arrive this past week.

You've never apparently owned a Tesla nor worked for a dealership and to deal with their terrible customer service. They aren't well designed, minor damage totals out a Tesla that is repairable in other manufacturers. Musk went on and on about once Tesla offers direct insurance will "Significantly " lower the price. Well according to a number of Tesla owners that hasn't happened, nor have quick repairs. The CEO is just one person in a company of thousands of employees and personnel. I dont know other than him, who examines the CEO for a product to buy.?
I get it, free choice. I am just replying to you because you suggested I really think about it. In my eyes the CEO is a genus, gosh, look at all the advanced companies he owns, He doesnt own Tesla he works for them but he does own Space X, Starlink and others.
I certainly would feel best if I had to go into space being in one of his craft than Boeing or NASA
HECK the people who went up in BOEING are stuck in space! *LOL*
To me Tesla suggests a well engineered product. (not that I have any interest in the design, not my style)
I guess Im on this side of the fence because I look at him as a genus and people like that are different from the general population and why they are who they are, a cut above.
I may be remembering wrong, but I seem to remember that way back in the very infancy of Tesla, when Elon defined his plan, one of the elements was a desire to drive a change in culture, where EV became the norm. I thought he even stated that after his company (Tesla) had developed leading edge EV technology, that he would make that technology public domain, so as to encourage global acceptance of EV across the globe.Absolutely. He is confident that Tesla owns market. Eliminating tax credit hurts much more other EV’s.
Many states, recognizing that EVs escape paying road tax that is included in buying gas and diesel, have put in place an annual road tax for EVs. This helps make sure that EV owners are paying their share of road tax. Is this what your friends are referring to, when they claim they are paying an additional tax?I don't on an EV but e have friends who do and they say they pay an additional tax yearly.
I understand this perfectly, and I am aware of it.They don't need DOGE for that. Musk has already addressed that, and stated why he is in favor of eliminating the credit.

I’m aware of all those things, including a neighbor whose rear tail light went out on one side. She drove around the Tesla forever something like it was going to take a long time to get and when she heard the price, she just never repaired it.You've never apparently owned a Tesla nor worked for a dealership and to deal with their terrible customer service.
