Alignment needed ?

Depends on what had to come apart. If they loosened anything that has to do with adjusting things then yes but if they were able to knock out the lower ball joint and get it out that way then no.

Oilboy123,

This is for a '99 Nissan Maxima, the same vehicle that was referenced in the original post.

Sorry it was past my bed time...I realized after reading my response that it sounded smart alecky where I said "for an intelligent answer". But I was not trying to be.

With all the people on the board I am surprised nobody has answered that knows this. Some cars adjust the caster and or camber at the top of the strut. Then some adjust at the steering knuckle near the wheel bearing. Some are not readily adjustable.

Is this for a project you anticipate doing or having done. Or did you already have it done....?

Should be easy to find out which type you have? Looks like it adjusts at the steering knuckle......It could probably be done without messing with the alignment bolts.

It has already been done. I'm assuming the alignment is not necessary as I didn't mess with any alignment bolts.

Either way, thanks for the links and info.

Exactly. They should have been able to take the lower ball joint loose, drop the arm and pull the spindle back fro enough to get the axle out. If they did it this way then you're fine.

I have seen some techs take out the bolts that hold the strut to the spindleinstead of the ball joint. If the strut isn't position exaclt the same when the two bolts are tightned back up this will mess with the camber and could cause pull or abnormal tire wear.

If it's worrying you I'd head back up to the shop and ask the tech which method he used.

The shop would have been more than willing to upsell an alignment if it was needed in their mind. You should be good to go.

If still concerned I would watch the tires while they wear, that will tell you everything.

Happy motoring............
