So he is 550lbs and its the floor and governments fault his fat foot went through the floor? especially after the government paid for his house and the customization to accommodate his obesity, someone needs to get on a diet, I hope he doesn't get squat.

If he was some famous, 300 pound football player walking fast HE would still go through the floor as there would be enough force. And no one would fault him, everyone would be yelling that he needed to be compensated. It sure shows where people's priorities are.

What. Forget the if's and pretend. Get to the here and now. This guy who's already a government employee(welfare of some kind)gets work done to his home,at taxpayers expense,to accommodate his rather abnormal weight. What if they had left the house alone and not tried to help at all. Clearly this "victim" is biting the hand that feeds him. Flame suit on. I truly believe the welfare system shouldn't help at all. Let them take care of themselves til they fall by the wayside. Survival of the fittest.I don't want someone changing my diapers.

My priorities are with people that work to take care of themselves and their families. And for people who have a real disability (blind,etc.). And for kids that have cancer and other real diseases. Not for people like this guy!!

"...the government paid for his house and the customization to accommodate his obesity..." This makes the government liable for the accident. If they didn't think about floor loading, too bad. They're still liable.

legally you're probably right. But it still disgusts me. I'm sure the government will be holding his hand for the rest of his "someone else has to take care of me" life.

I did not watch the video, but as with most things, I'm not judging anything until some sort of investigation is done. If the builder did not build the structure in accordance with the architects plans or to code, clearly his fatness was not the cause of the failure, but a contributor. Seems people have just assumed the cause. Builders would NEVER try to skimp.... JMO.

What? No huge diatribe extolling your holier than thou lifestyle? What's the world coming to?

What's the building code? If building code was never designed to handle 500lb man (unlikely), then I don't think he will be able to sue and win anything. If the floor fail because of termite or water damage, then it is going to be the fault of a landlord regardless of whether the government pay for it or not. Who's to say a 180lb man wouldn't fall through?
