AFE/Cold air Intake/Pro/Cons

I see AFE makes a cold air intake kit for my 2006 Jeep with the Hemi.For $311 it looks great but I hear that these cold air intake kits do not filter well and only increase the sound of the engine.I would like to hear the pro/cons of other peoples views.Thanks Joe

I had a K&N FIPK on my 2004 Silverado 1/2 ton 5.3 V8. It did seam to help the gas mileage a bit but the only power increse was at red line and how often do you drive like that? The sound was great at WOT but is was unbearibul when I was towing my trailer so I removed it and reinstated the stock parts.

I had a Dodge Ram 5.7 Hemi, with a cold air intake on it. It was not an AFE, but it was an alluminum tube with a Amsoil filter on the end. It sounded great on the Hemi, and it was not too loud pulling my boat, or just driving around. I also have an Injen w/Amsoil air filter cai on my 06 Eclipse, and to be honest, it has been on their so long, and with the exhaust also I really couldn't tell you how it makes it sound. I just can't remember what it sounded like stock. Anyhow, my used oil analysis does not show anything wrong with my air filtration in the oil. Also, by Injens dyno sheets, and real world sheets, there is a a hp increase, and it is not only at wot. Every vehicle is a little different.

Pretty much. You're sacrificing filtration for flow rates and usually not even gaining much (if anything).

It's definitely worth it on my Nissan. However, it didn't rally come alive until married with a cat-back. For sure there was NO increase in MPGs.

Usually only diesels benefit from aftermarket air intakes because their engines move 10x the air of a gasoline counterpart. In the past I've installed those cold air systems for just looks and sound. They are usually much smaller than OEM pieces so cleaning up the engine bay to work on the vehicle helps. If you are on the fence shop for a used one??

The tubs on the cold air systems are normally the same but they don't have the big air box at the end of it.
