The HTHS of the 0W-20 Mobil 1 (in my Ferrari) is 2.6 so I guess I do not worry too much about that 3.5 number - using today's oils and today's additives. I think that the Ferrari is working fine with this oil. For the Maybach I will be using Red Line 5W-20 and it's HTHS is 3.3. 'No worries on my part. The HTHS of the recommended 0W-40 Mobil 1 is 3.4 and it always seems to thin with fuel dilution in a lot of high performance cars.
If I had to use an API SH rated oil then I would certainly run an oil with a HTHS of 3.5.
The cam lobe shot is interesting. When I was loaned a Maybach for 2 weeks before mine came in I took a picture of that car as well. It had about 4,500 miles on the odometer. You are seeing my car on delivery with 175 miles on the clock. The factory test drives every car. Anyway both photos look exactly the same.
I asked the "Maybach mechanic" (whom I trust) what he thought of the cam lobes and he said they do all look like that. Apparently they are supposed to look as that but I am going to monitor them anyway and take pictures as time goes on. These are roller cams and what is equally interesting is that the rollers have no visible wear at all, none.
