advances dino?

can anyone tell me who makes advances conventional oil for them? also who makes their filters? is it the same as company that makes super tech stuff? my dad being the cheap skate that he is, has taken a fancy to it and i want to know exactaly what it is before i dump it into his car. thanks

If you mean Advance Auto parts house brand then the conventional oil is most likely Coastal. Coastal was bought out by Warren, not the same Warren that was doing WalMarts oil though. I still see the Coastal name for gear oils in the store. Advance's TotalGrip oil filters appear to be made by Purolater. They seem to be very similar to Purolater Premium Plus oil filters.

If I remember correctly, from previous threads, the Advance Auto Parts private label oil is blended & packaged by Coastal.

Based on the construction, the filters are most likely Purolators.

When I changed my valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, and rear main seal. I used this stuff for six months to flush out the silicon. Didn't have any problems with it for six month/2.5k.

Weak oils generally won't show problems that early - unless you removed the top of the engine before you installed the oil & did visual/tool readings -- then did it again after you quit using the el-cheapo oil.

Most oils nowadays are serviceable short-term. You normally won't notice a difference in 6 months/2.5K.... buy may notice things like cam marks after two years/10K. What you may notice short-term is a difference in internal engine sound. However, even good oils like Mobil 1, Valvoline... etc... can change the 'sing' in your engine.

Advance Motor Oil is made by Warren-Unilube.

It used to be made by Coastal Unilube but Warren Oil Company of North Carolina bought Coastal from El Paso Corp.

The company is now Warren Unilube.Their website is at:

The oil filters are made by Arvin/Meritor,the parent company of Purolator.

Just to make things totally confusing. Warren Performance Products started out in the early part of the last century as Warren Oil.

Warren Oil (the N.C. one, not the Nebraska one) started about thirty some years ago, I believe, other than a similar and at one time identical name and a penchant for private brands they share nothing.

since warren bought out coastal. it's possible that supertech, advance oil, valuecraft are all the same.

Warren Oil Company is not Warren Performance Packaging,the maker of Super Tech.

Warren Performance is based in Nebraska and is a totally different company that Warren Oil Company(Warren Unilube)and are not associated in any way.

These are two completely seperate companies with seperate owners.
