Hi: I have 2 Thinkpad L-412 I-5, 256SSD, 8 GIG. FOR 2 TEENAGE COUSINS. I BELIEVE I HAVE AN EXPRESSCARD SLOT AND I SEE USB 3.0 5GIG CARDS THAT I UNDERSTAND WILL LET THEM USE USB 3.0 FOR PRICES BETWEEN $5 AND $30. ANY THOUGHTS? $5.00 SURE SEEMS LIKE A GOOD UPGRADE PRICE.THANKS!

what is the point of adding usb 3?

what are they doing that 40MB/S isnt fast enough with usb 2.0?

Many flash drives wont exceed 40MB/S despite any marketing on them.

What is a usb3 5gig card?

at first read I thought you were talking about a 5gigahertz wireless usb 3 dongle.

maybe a link to what you were looking at?

a lot of usb flashdrives are 3.0 and larger capacity and cheaper than usb 2 with lower capacity. I'm always happy with a $5-10 upgrade for a typical 128 gig $25 flashdrive. 5gig is the 3.0 speed, apparently. These are machines we just put together and really, with an I-5, 8 gig ddr3, and the SSD drive they don't appear all that slow.

You can still use a 3.0 flashdrive in your 2.0 usb port. For transfering individual files, you are not going to notice much speed difference between 2.0 and 3.0.

And as Rand mentioned, a lot of these inexpensive usb 3.0 flashdrives don't really go much above 2.0 speeds anyway, at least not consistently.
