I did a little research( and if I made mistakes, somebody please correct me), found that plain old Castrol GTX 10W30 appears to have higher levels of Ca,Mg, Moly,Zinc and Phosphorous than Chevron Supreme and Havoline. In fact, more than what I calculated the levels to be in the HM versions of Chev/Hav(based on Chevron telling me that the HM's contain about 15% more Ca and Mg, and around 8-12% more Moly, etc.)

So I guess I wonder why GTX isn't getting the raves here that Chevron is? I have seen good UOA's and haven't read any negatives about GTX here, but the cheerleading seems to be for Chevron and Pennzoil as far as dino's go.
Any comments?

here's the newest ones I could find:

Motorcraft:
Moly 42
Magnesium 18
Calcium 2077
Phos 921
Zinc 1285

Chevron:
Moly = 65
Boron = 133
Calcium= 1814
Phosprus= 732
Zinc = 879

Castrol 5w30:
Molybdenum 53
Boron 2
Calcium 1720
Phosphorus 716
Zinc 801

Doesn't look any better to me?

Unless you have a newer Castrol VOA?

These were 10W30 VOA's

Looks like a very old spec, I doupt any SL oil you will find will have 1306 ppm of Phos.

T-Keith has a good point, as the levels in zinc & phosphorous are trending in the 700-800's with the latest formulations.

Higher Calcium levels along with Moly & Boron are handling more of the anti-wear load that was previously required of Zinc & Phosphorous.

Any preferences on this board for Chevron or Pennzoil is partly due to base oils. We know both are Group II hydrocracked using the Chevron Isosyn technology. Info is readily available at the Chevron website.

Castrol GTX is reported to be Group II, but beyond that, the information seems to be pretty scarce.
