Hey Guys,

What additive/s in motor oil are used to give a high TBN number for acid neutralization? Is this additive/s highly soluable in the basestock?

Thanks,

There likely is a discussion of this in the "Question of the Day" forum here. Try searching on "TBN." Anyway, I am no expert, but will point out the obvious one, calcium, which also serves for cleaning and I believe antiwear to some degree.

This one is old but really goes into detail on TBN and how it relates to oil quality and life. A quick scan of the article shows that Calcium is highly rated.
