AcDelco PF63 (old) and PF63A (new) comparison

Is PF63A 14-Flute? 73mm?

I count 14 flutes in the picture in post #1. They appear to be the same diameter, but can't say for sure.

I know PF63 is 15 flutes 74mm. Strange it’s different.
As mentioned the oil filter "cap wrench" between the old PF63 and new pf63A are completely different! I replace them on the 6.6 v8 gas, and the duramax 6.6 diesel. On the diesel it's mounted in a tight location. I bought the lisle oil filter cap wrench, worked perfectly on every old pf63 oil filter, and of course the new pf63A is different I'm afraid. Looking to buy the whole set of them for $20 from harbor freight.

I checked the one in the HF $20 is 76mm 14 flute. Likely too big.

AM I crazy? Doesnt it look like a lot less restrictive bottom plate on the original pf63 compared to the 63A?

Im having a hard time with a similar thing right now, comparing the PF 63 with a Purolator Gold LX10575 filter. The Purolator is a heavy well built feeling filter but the bottom plate looks more restrictive than the 63A>
I am not a fan of metal perforated inside of the Purolator either, vs the more open plastic retainer inside the AC Delco as that too looks less restrictive. Im almost ready to throw out the Purolator Gold that I got at a great price from Walmart, unless time to return it is still valid.

The one on the left probably has the possibility the adbv does not cover the holes. I looked at a couple Frams and a Supertech with this late production fiasco design. All had a visible gap at holes on one side, adbv not centered.

The difference in dP vs flow performance between those two base plates is negligible, and makes no real difference to a positive displacement oil pump. I'd worry more about junk black glue that sheds during use and low efficiency than base plate holes.
