How are the engines and transmissions holding up on 2009 Honda Accords? I am more focused on the 3.5L VTEC V6 and 5 speed automatic. Any problems with this engine/transmission combination? Is Honda's reliability and longevity present in the 2009 Honda Accord?

the v6 has nasty intake deposit issues because of a poorly designed pcv setup...it's not too bad if you use a very high quality oil and change it like you should, although you should clean or replace the pcv valve every 30k or so very inexpensive....the trans is known for problems, but using a higher quality fluid seems to help alot

I think it is kinda hard to answer this question because you are asking about a car that is just two years old. I am assuming that 99.99% of them are doing just fine. Check and see if there are any recalls/TSBs on them, otherwise, maybe ask in about 15 to 20 years. Historically, Honda Accords have been one of the most reliable and longest lasting cars on the road, so I don't think you would have any problems. (YMMV)

I think Honda's engines are among the best made and will hold up well with a modicum of care. It's their A/Ts that have been questionable since approx. 1998.

Their newer ATs since 2006 seem to be doing a lot better. These past few years I haven't seen nearly as many failures as I used to, and almost all the ones I saw were like 2001-2004, and usually in Honda Odysseys (more weight = more strain on the underdesigned v6 tranny), Haven't really seen any major issues with the engine itself. I'd say it's currently one of the most reliable cars on the road.

My brother in-law 2001-2002 Odyssey had A/T problem few years ago. He sold it and bought 2007 Odyssey and so far without any problem with engine or A/T.

I was one of those with a bad transmission on our 02 Accord, but Honda replaced it for free at 130K. After they fixed the second gear overheating problem around 05 or 04, I haven't come across any common AT problems. I think the AT problems were with any 5 speed made from 98 to 02, vans included.
