The vehicle is a 2009 1500 silverado with 5.3L. I'm looking for a filter to replace the tiny PF48 that comes with the truck. Does anyone no of a longer filter that can replace the PF48?

The GM engineers must have finally realized that this filter is the optimum size for gasoline engines, as the Kohler engineers already new for the 26hp engine on my garden tractor.

Same 22x1.5 threads as the PH2/FL820 used on a lot of Fords.
I use PF48 & Wix 57060 on my Jeep Patriot 2.4L engine which has a 4.5L sump, and I'm quite happy with them.
With Wix anyways, the 57060 has a better Beta then the larger 51372, so you might be getting a bigger filter, but it may have lower efficiency. Bigger isn't always better.

I believe you GM guys run into diameter restrictions due to the filter being oriented too close to the block. There are plenty of bigger filters, just few in the 3" diameter persuasion.

BUT GM changed the thread design for those engines in 07. The older filter PF46/PF61 used a SAE thread whereas the PF48 uses metric.

Ah, my apologies then.

Not the engine, just that platform.

The vans still use the SAE thread even with the same engine in 07

WHY DOES GM CALL FOR A PF46 WHEN A PF61 CAN FIT?

As long as you have the clearance feel free to use the larger filter. I was in this industry many years ago back when the PF25/PF35/PF1218 were being phased out of production engines in favor of the PF47/PF52 series. Its a dirty little secret to save on production costs. Less metal, less media, AND LESS OIL times millions of cars rolling off the line!!!

Ok? Not when you look the filter up. Same PF48 as the trucks.

Yep. Just look up 57060 on Wix's site and hit "all applications". There's nothing else to fit with a spin-on. Cars ..trucks ...vans.. 07 through 10

Apparently Saturn still used the 13/16 thread through 09.

GM would not make a change in filter threads on some engines and not others in that family of engines.. Think what that would do to the people on the assembly line. After being in manufacturing for 45 years, I can say it will not happen.
