I just bought a new Sierra Denali Crew Cab truck today. I was amazed that the 6.0 engine uses such a small PF46 filter! I was looking to cross ref to a larger filter but it looks as though anything larger may risk getting damaged by road debris since it'll hang lower. Anybody got a 6.0 and use a different filter with positive results?

You can use an AC PF59 which is slightly longer than the PF46. I have a 2002 6.0 in a Suburban which uses the PF59 and I have no issues with the filter being too low. The equivalents in Baldwin are B1432,Wix 51522, Hastings LF487, Purolator Pure One PL25288 and Amsoil EAo64. I have found longer ones(About 1") as well but none of them had an antidrainback valve except for the Amsoil, and that number is EAo30.
If my memory serves me correctly the PF59 is made by Baldwin. I had a PF59 side by side with a Baldwin B1432 and they looked identical on the inside and outside. The only difference was the color, AC was white and the Baldwin was red, although I have seen that Baldwin number in white as well.
Grab up PF59's if you find them, we can no longer get them through GMSPO (General Motors Service Parts Operations), or just use the equivalents. All of us at the dealers think they've lost their collective minds.
I have been getting Champion-made AC Delco PF59's at Autozone. Are the dealership filters the same? Larkbill, do you know if AC Delco is going to quit carrying that filter, or is GM just not stocking them?
What we were told is that AC Delco is no longer making them, since the retail market is a different supply line they may have the filters for a while after GMSPO does. Kind of like the Ultraguard deal, I was still getting them from the local Delco guy long after we could get them from GMSPO. Boy did the Taurus SHO guys cry about that.
