What cam profile are you going to install? Are you going to install gear drive or at least replace the timing chain assembly?

The engine is very clean with Mobil 1 at 5k OCI. I think if you had M1 at 10k OCI your engine may not be as good looking but it will not have any sludge either.

If the new cam will not go in, cool the new cam in a bucket of ice, pull it out of the ice, dry it, and lube it before it has time to warm up, and install it while it is still cold.

Yeah would love to see more. I've only ever really worked on inline engines where the cams were in plain sight and easy to access.

Heads are off super clean both sides

So in an LS engine we seem to have established that M1 at 5000 mile intervals will keep the engine clean.
Considering Mobil guarantees the oil to last double that are we surprised in any way.
When we did my cam swap on my 99 with a 5.3 it had 100k on Amsoil and the engine was equally spotless, which I not only expected but if it hadn't been I would have been very disappointed actually.
What cam are you going with? Dyno tune?

Canned mail order to get started then I am going to custom tune it myself.
216/220 114 cam

Finally torqued down the head studs.
