Around 8:30 this morning wifey and I were headed to Costco for gas and some stuff.
Near downtown, what I believe was a real 60's Cobra, was behind us and turned towards downtown.
Had a historic plate and was not all perfect like the kit cars I generally see.

No chance for a pic, but it was pretty darn cool. A real Cobra...

What year did it appear to be? Small block or big block model?

When I was younger I was seduced by the muscular allure of the 427S/C models, but honestly I think the 289 "slab side" models hold the most appeal for me now. I've seen a few real ones recently; one in AZ this past winter at a car show in Fountain Hills, and one recently at the IN SAAC meet in May.

They're still my favorite car of all time. I was fortunate to get to ride in several Cobra's and other real racing Fords with their owner, at the Roadracing track he built. He built it mainly to be able to drive his cars in the manner they were designed for, but the facility did host several world-class racing series, until his untimely passing.

I'd post a video of his car collection, but frankly I'm not sure what videos are acceptable to post.

Real Cobra ! which there was roughly 1000 built is a rare site indeed car is likely worth at least 500k.
the very first cobra sold for 13.75 million.

Yeah, theirs probably a few still lurking around in someones garage still. Awesome & you seem to have your eye out for what you'll find lately. Interesting stuff out there.

Nice. I wonder what the chances are that it was real? There are some really nice kits out there.

It would be nice to have a real Cobra, but wouldn't it be just as nice to have a good quality reproduction with a sorted Ford small V8 and a 5 speed transmission.

You could drive that anywhere, park it anywhere. And not worry about it. And if it got stolen or wrecked you could just get another one.

Sorry. Sacrilege I know.

I plan to buy a decent replica at some point.

I got to talk to Herbie Hancock and check out his original 260 Cobra back in the 80’s. The car had some road rash but sure was a cool car. I wasn’t familiar with these early Cobras and much prefer the low key look. Apparently it is quite a valuable car these days. He loved this car and told us he “bought it with Watermelon money”. Took me a minute to realize he meant his song “Watermelon Man”.

Lol, you beat me to it by 10 seconds.

In all honesty, we made a left and the Cobra (?) was finishing a right. My best SWAG is a '65 289.
Probably what makes me think it might be real was, it was a survivor; not a super shiny replica.

But who knows? I shoulda made an illegal U-turn and got a better look.

The buyer is the Son of the guy who owned many Cobras, and other racing Fords, I was referring to.
