Hey gang. I just bought a 99 Mazda Protege. I would like to flush all the fluids. I have always liked Zerex G-05 for my older Toyota. Can I use Zerex G-05 in my Mazda? I know Zerex says to use Dex-Cool for 99 Mazdas, but i've heard that there are issues with Dex Cool for many cars.

It is currently filled with a dark green fluid. It looks quite clean, but I don't know what kind or how long it has been in there.

I know many say that silicates are bad for Japaniese cars, but I have never had an issue running silicate coolants in older Toyotas.

Does anyone know what color coolant Mazda used in '99? Is the green coolant in there now original maybe?

Don't have one yet. Ordered one on ebay.

I'm thinking that the coolant is original coolant from '99. Is Mazda coolant a phosphate coolant like Toyota? I usually have a bottle of red Toyota long life for my wifes car. Would that be a better choice than G-05?

I am going to the Mazda dealer tommorow to pick up some parts, I am going to see if the coolant is available.

Well, when I went to the dealer (which is also a Chysler dealer) I asked them what they use for a 99 Mazda. The guy pulled a chart, but the chart only went back to 2000. He then went back to ask a tech, and the tech said they used Chysler green coolant for Mazdas. I asked to look at a bottle of their Chysler coolant and sure enough, it contained silicates.

They did have an old dusty bottle of Mazda Premium Gold coolant. But it had a warning on the back not to mix it with green or orange coolant. I decided not to get it since I am not sure which type coolant is in my car right now, but it is green.

I don't have any direct information on the OEM coolant in 1999 Mazdas but I doubt it contained silicates since CCI, the coolant supplier for Mazda, was already producing silicate-free, first generation P-OAT coolants for Japanese manufacturers by the early 90's. I do know that the coolant in my 1996 Acura Integra was silicate-free. I also know that the MSDS for Mazda Long Life Coolant (a first generation P-OAT coolant developed and manufactured by CCI) was originally issued on 01/01/1992.

I recommend using a first or second generation P-OAT coolant in 1999 Mazdas: OEM coolant from Mazda, Honda, Toyota, or Nissan; Zerex Asian Vehicle coolant; or Motorcraft Specialty Green Engine Coolant.

Well, I checked with all the dealers and none of them have a P-OAT that is concentrated. I called Mazda, Ford and Toyota. They all only have the 55% dilute. It seems all the Japanese car companies are now supplying pre-mix coolants.

I'd like to get the concentrated so I can do a distilled water flush, then top off with a bottle of 100%. Like I said before, I don't know how long this coolant has been in the car, or what kind it is.

I guess if I want to do a complete flush, G-05 is my only option. It is the only concentrated coolant that I can find locally.

Does anyone know who makes a 100% P-OAT coolant that is commonly availible?

I'll call some other dealers tommorow. The one I talked to last week said they didn't carry it and that I would have to order a 6 gallon case if I wanted any.

ya with Mazda you have to order fluids in case quantities, plus it ships from Excelda and with my dealer can take over a week to get. they can look up other dealers inventories real easy and tell that dealer to have one on the counter waiting for you. I do that all the time.

Thanks. I was able to have the dealer find another local dealer with some in stock. I'll pick up a couple gallons later this week.
