My father has a 99' Chev Tracker 4 door hardtop. It has about 130k miles on it. It also has the 2.0L Suzuki motor in it. Its getting oler and only gets quick lube oil changes. He's not living near me and has to get them done himself. he is ot capable of doing it due to his condition. But thats neither here nor there.
He recently discovered that his rear main seal has a light leak.
He is religious about 3000 mile OCI...he's old school.
I am wondering if a thicker oil or a something like Maxlife, could help cure his problem, or at least slow it down.
What about an ARX treatment, then a rinse phase with the Maxlife.

Just looking for some thoughts.
BTW he never goes over 55mph. The motor is babied. Just old with higher miles.

He can try MaxLife in his recommended weight. If the leak does not stop or slow down, have him use Auto-RX with conventional oil for the clean and rinse phase. Do not use MaxLife with Auto-RX for the clean and rinse phase as it a High Mileage oil that contains additives that will compete with the Auto-RX doing its job properly.

Did the quick lube place overfill by any chance? If the level is above the top dot on the dipstick it doesn't take much to make the rear main leak. It might go away on its own.
