Bought the car with 117K on it. At 171K I installed a new head. This is a picture under the valve cover 100K later. Since the head installation the car has had nothing but Shell white bottle 5w-20 and QS3600 or FL-400S filters. I think it looks pretty good.

Looks good. What OCI did you run? Did you ever have the 'valve seat dropping' problem that's fairly common on those engines? Does the car currently have 171K , 217K or 271K? (100K after you bought it or 100K after you changed the head?)

1.9 or 2 liter splitport? I had a 98 5 speed Escort wagon a bunch of years ago. Quite lively and got pretty decent fuel mileage too

Formula Shell white bottle conventional one of the most underrated motor oils out there. I have three Ford Focus cars at work two 05's and an 06 all with between 190-300,000 miles all run on FS conventional 5w30. They all run great!

Nice, what's your oci?

Where can u buy formula shell besides Home Depot? My Costco carries chevron supreme which I've been using.

OCI 5,000 miles
Funny story. I had a lifter go bad at 171k and started making noise. Machine shop disassembled and inspected head. Decided to rebuild. The intake seat for the #4 cylinder fell out in the hot tank. I then bought a head from J&C Enterprises with upgraded seats.
Car currently is at 271K. Head was replaced at 171K. I bought the car with 117K on it.

Used to get it on sale at Menards for $2.00 per quart. Still have a couple cases in my secret stash.

Looks good.

The 'ol CVH engine has a soft spot in my heart as I learned to drive on an 87 Escort.

Fun fact: You can tell people "It's got a Hemi."...

Ah the CVH.
I had a carbed one in a European 1992 Mk5 Escort SW that was a pig to start in the cold, in Europe it was used in the Fiesta XR2 and Escort XR3 and RS Turbo so not an entirely bad engine.
Looks really good under the rocker cover.

I think CVH stands for Compound Valve Hemispherical.

Thanks, that's impressive.
Your original post was accurate but silly me read into a little too much and caused my own confusion.

I know this is about an Escort but that CVH engine was also used in some Foci (Focuses) ...the Focus also used the Zetec and later the MZR (which it currently still uses)....all were capable of very high mileages with decent maintenance.
