186k mi, ATF & filter changed at 179k. Before that it was neglected by previous owner. 15k pound transmission cooler. E4OD, 4.9L I6.

I have recently developed a shudder. I'm not sure if it is the TC, a bad injector, or bad u-joints.

I lost an injector a year or so ago and it made a sort of shudder but it also gave CEL. No CEL now.

How do I isolate the problem?

If it is the TC, what do I do about it?

Thanks!

Yank the injectors and send them out for cleaning.

If the ujoints are original, why not just replace them?

Also, inspect the drivetrain mounts/bushing.

Add a silver bottle of Lubegard or Smartblend to the ATF.

If its the TC, you'll need a new one. And if you pull the transmission, you should also rebuild that too!

We had a bad shudder in a Mercury with the same trans. It only happened when going into overdrive. I dropped the pan changed the fluid and filter and added a bottle of the silver lubeguard. In less than 500 miles, the shudder has gone away. Total miles on trans 115K, last indication I have fluid was changed 32K.
