May go to look at a 93 Volvo 240 sedan (not wagon), 5spd, 98K, supposedly in decent condition, used as daily driver. Odo works, AC cold, no rust on body. $1500.

What to look for, beware of, etc?

I know nothing about Volvo's. Talk to me.

Be careful you might wake up one day and realize how ugly the car is. Can be quite terrifying and Volvo's are known for this!

I'm more of a believer in the person who maintains the car and not the design itself. (This isn't to say some cars aren't prone to problems, but 90% of them I would say it's the owner that makes the difference in its reliability)

Have a mechanic look at it, but it sounds like a great deal.

Price and mileage sound real sweet for a 93. Make sure everything else checks out.

Other good resources are http://www.brickboard.com for info and advice and http://www.fcpgroton.com for parts. Maintenance is really easy on RWD Volvos and parts prices are low.

I keep my '85 240 wagon around as a spare because everything works on it and it's good for hauling stuff around you don't want to stick in your newer vehicles.

Low mileage for a '93, which means lots and lots of short-trip driving, which is hard on a car.

But I agree, price seems great - low mileage Volvo's are usually not cheap!
