Here are a couple engine pics of my 88 Lesabre. The engine has 216,000 miles on it. I had to pull the valve cover because a rubber grommet broke off in it. Looks pretty good considering the oil was black and two quarts low when I got it, and this is the third oil change since. Maybe sludge just isn't a problem for some engines.

Well I bought the car with 210,000 miles. The oil was over 2 quarts low and when I added oil it was black, so my guess is that the previous owner didn't change the oil much. I put in Delo 400 for 500 miles, then switched to Chevron 10w30.

Aren't those 3800s known to be easy on oil?

All you have to do now is AutoRX it and show us the after pics.

I don't see a need to. It runs well and there is not even a hint of sludge. The picture was taken with flash so it makes it look worse then it is. I tried AutoRX on my Grand Am, which looked similar and I saw no benefit, but it "cleaned a false seal" causing a leak.

Well, I think that those older 3800's have much less hp, like 150-160? compared to todays 200?

165 for this motor, what difference does this make?
