88 Buick 3800 w/216,000 miles.

Here are a couple engine pics of my 88 Lesabre. The engine has 216,000 miles on it. I had to pull the valve cover because a rubber grommet broke off in it. Looks pretty good considering the oil was black and two quarts low when I got it, and this is the third oil change since. Maybe sludge just isn't a problem for some engines. [I dont know]  -  - -T

Well I bought the car with 210,000 miles. The oil was over 2 quarts low and when I added oil it was black, so my guess is that the previous owner didn't change the oil much. I put in Delo 400 for 500 miles, then switched to Chevron 10w30. -T

I don't see a need to. It runs well and there is not even a hint of sludge. The picture was taken with flash so it makes it look worse then it is. I tried AutoRX on my Grand Am, which looked similar and I saw no benefit, but it "cleaned a false seal" causing a leak. -T
