7 days to deliver a "2 day Priority Mail" package.

My post master told me that if I want to send a package to Redfield (a nearby town 10 miles from here) it would be sent to Huron (40 miles away), and then bounced to Sioux Falls (140 miles away), and then to Redfield. Why take 5 days when I can drive there myself in 10 minutes?

but it's insanity. send it halfway across the state to make it 10 miles? so much for saving gas!

I just sent one "the slow way" and it took three days flat to get there. They said "7 to 10 days." HA!

UPS vs. USPS - UPS has much better tracking. Perhaps too good. A few years ago, I ordered something from a company in Indiana on the Friday before Thanksgiving. I watched as the package sat at the local UPS facility over the weekend before moving to a larger hub and then to the big Hodgkins IL terminal and finally to the local facility in Addison IL where it arrived on the day before Thanksgiving, too late to deliver to me. No big deal, I thought, I'll get it on Friday.

No such luck. It sat in Addison for the entire four-day weekend and I got it at lunchtime on Monday. Thanks to their tracking, I saw how it didn't move at all over two consecutive weekends. USPS would never show that kind of detail; it would just show something like "Departed Origin" and then "Delivered to Customer" and probably nothing else in between.
