Well for the original poster:
Any car that specs 5W20, I would not put any additive in there, especailly if it's a thick one. Not sure about STP, never used it. But you don't wanna thicken it, right? That kind of defeats the purpose of using a 5W20.
And if that additive is more simliar to MMO, then it would thin the oil. Either way, seems like not a ggod idea.
If your engine is tight enough to run 5W20, then it is not in the need of additives.
Now pouring that in your oil right before an oil change, just to help clean/flush, that would be ok, IMHO, if you want to do that.
IMHO, additives are only good if you have a worn engine and don't want to put money into rebuilding it right away, or using MMO or seafoam as a mild engine flush, like when my oil gets nasty from me running rich or from burning oil, I want a little bit of something to help rinse it out when I drain the oil.
But a good, tight engine under normal or even somewhat severe service has no need for anything but quality oil.
Because neither of your engines are turbocharged or supercharged (I assume?), I would go with Chevron 5W20 and a good filter every 3-4 months. Or synthetic every 5-6 months.
If one car is mostly just a weekend car, i would just change it twice a year with dino, assuming that you run it good every once and a while, not just 1/2 or something, but at least 10 mile trip.
Yep Chevron Supreme Dino 5W20 for $1.09/quart (coupon), and either the walmart supertech oil filter, puralator, or wix.
Any reason why you have felt compelled to use the STP stuff?
