Hello everyone
I have a 2020 Kia Forte EX (2.0 liter MPI).
I have spent some time on this site however I'm still unsure as to which oil will best prolong engine life.
I should be specific, I want to prioritize engine longevity over fuel economy and performance. I can't imagine there will be noticeable differences between fuel economy and performance between 5W20 and 5W30, therefore engine longevity is best.
I live in South Florida, and I drive around 30k miles a year. It gets very hot here. I sit a lot in heavy congestion, and I also drive a lot on the highway. I follow the SEVERE maintenance schedule. I just passed 100,000 miles on the car, just did a 2nd tranny drain/fill and oil change and honestly the car runs almost like it's brand new. I use Redline 5W20 every 4,000 miles. I only use Kia OEM filters. I figured out the oil is just becoming pitch black around 4,000 miles. The engine runs super quiet and smooth on this oil, and sometimes I can't even tell if it's actually on, it's that quiet at 100,000 miles. i average about 35mpg on streets and maybe 40-45mpg on the highway.
I have read that in a hotter climate a 5W30 is preferred over a 5W20. My understanding is that Redline has low volatility, so it operates very well in very hot climates. It is less likely to break down at high temperatures. I drive rather gently, I am not racing this car. I've rarely gone over 5,000 RPM and generally never go above 4000 RPM. Needless to say, I really want this car to last at least 250,000 miles. There are have been no mechanical problems on this car. I recently had a boot kit replaced because the one the factory installed was leaking grease. Also, at my next oil change I plan on sending a sample to Blackstone for analysis. I have never done that before.
Thank you!
