for poops and giggles, i changed out what was previously 40wt XD-3 for 5w-20!! Took it for a spin. Seems to run ok, no noises or anything. Revs up marginally quicker... took it to 7500 in 1st and caught second and there was a small blue puff! Let's see how long it lasts

you running it in a KLDE? how many miles? any burning before? be sure to track your MPG, although the 7500 rpm shift points might throw that off just a little.

Having XD-3 available, you should count your blessings....

XD-3 is a fine oil, no doubt... but I think a 40wt is a bit too thick though. Engine seems happier with the thin stuff shockingly enough, we'll see how it does. The engine has a very short stroke (72mm) and 1.85:1 r/s ratio.

well 270,000km's would be the mileage. Its running on a KLDE (with ZE parts)... after driving it last night, I like the way it runs. Its a revver and its rather smooth on the highway with the 20. (cant believe i'm saying this

) The engine did consume oil before, so I'm going to monitor just how the 20 changes it

Okay an update: level is still at the Full mark with about 600kms on the oil. This isnt burning out quite as fast as I expected. One thing that scares me though is when i wiped the dipstick, the tissue had some greyish stuff on it, like transmission fluid usually leaves ... is this wear metal???

That thin oil may be going places & removing trappings not common with your prior, thicker 40W oils.

What 5W-20 brand are you using? Is it dino, blend or synthetic?

3 qts Lucas 'synthetic' 5w20
2 L Motomaster "Formula1" Synthetic 5w20 (most likely made by Shell)

Cars putting on 100km's a day now and the engine seems much freer and smoother. Just hit past 100kms on the trip meter and the fuel guage is still on/over F

Of course this gas guage falls progressively faster, but its not that inaccurate!

I was eyeing the M1 0w-20 in the store today... hmmm

Unleash the horse power hidden deep within your engine!! (somehow associating: "You've controlled your fear. Now release your anger!" Darth Vader)
