This is a 4k run on an '09 Vue 3.6l that a friend just purchased. Has 134k on it. This was M1 0w40 + a bottle of Rislone. Some serious carbon in this guy. Seems like a good cleaning combo.
This is the 3.6l GM engine. I have an '04 Redline with the Honda J35 also.Is that the Honda J series V6? I have Rislone about to go in next OCI on my signature volvo.
It generally just flows to the sump down the return channels in the block, then pumped through the filter before hitting bearings and journals.Didn’t all that crap, most of it, some of it, run thru the engine on its way to the filter?
If def looks like its off to a good start! What OP has posted is the same thing I am seeing as well when I use the product. I winder if continued use would completely clean the engine?
Unsure. She purchased it used. The sticker showed it just being done at Valvoline, but it didn't specify the type of oil. I changed it as soon as she bought it though. I prefer to start with fresh fluids and maint throughout anytime purchasing a used vehicle.Any idea which oil(s) were being used before the M1?
I believe they added the 3.6l 2008-2010. I quite like the 2004 3.5l Redline we have. It's a FWD model and has been great. It was also very well cared for by the original owner. I'm sure that has something to do with it. I feel like the demise of Saturn was when GM started badge engineering cars for them. The original concept of a independent line, and composite body panels was the way they should have stayed.Noticeable carbon for just a 4k run & that would possibly indicate the cleaning aspect. I did not know they put the 3.6L V6 in these Views & thought the only options were 4 cylinder Ecotec & Honda V6. That must of been their last ditch effort to make them appealing in their last few years.
Thanks for that info. Those Redlines were neat. I somewhat agree. I really did like the GM 2.2L Ecotec I4/Transmission in the 02' L200 I gave to our niece a few years back.I believe they added the 3.6l 2008-2010. I quite like the 2004 3.5l Redline we have. It goes through the oil pump before it's filtered. Oil pumps can take a beating sometimes. It generally just flows to the sump down the return channels in the block, then pumped through the filter before hitting bearings and journals.

I should cut the pleats open to take a look at it. I'm just tired of getting covered in oil lol
Which Rislone product? They make more than a dozen different oil and fuel additives..This was M1 0w40 + a bottle of Rislone.
True, but as the grit shown gets “cleaned off” from places the grit joins the oil splashing around the cam, the lifters etc BEFORE it drains into the pan and gets picked up by the pump.It goes through the oil pump before it's filtered. Oil pumps can take a beating sometimes.
Never said it didn't/couldn't ... but sure that can happen too. I was talking specifically about the oil pump.True, but as the grit shown gets “cleaned off” from places the grit joins the oil splashing around the cam, the lifters etc BEFORE it drains into the pan and gets picked up by the pump.
If some put a few ounces of sand in your valve cover oil fill hole would you be ok because it will eventually go thru the pump and filter?
