The title says it all.

I just blew by 6,000 miles in my second run with GC. All on a motorcraft filter. Can I go 10k miles without changing the filter in between?

I'm running GC, the truck is a 98 f150 4.6 with 52k miles and counting.

You can as long as insolubles dont exceed 0.5%.

If you did a 6,000 mi UOA last run and insolubles were 0.3 or less you should be good to go.

If not you might do a search in the UOA section to get a feel for how the 4.6L tends to fair. Of course each individual engine will vary.

At any rate one 10,000 mi run in which insolubles got a little high is not really going to harm that much.

I did 10,000 (winter time) miles with Amsoil 5w-30 and a Motorcraft FL820s with no problems. BTW, this was a 97 F150 4.6(w).

At the same time, I did mostly highway miles and a few short trips. It'll depend on your driving habits. Given the right circumstances, I would say there shouldn't be a problem with 10k and one Motorcraft filter. A UOA will let you know for sure.

Justin,
Why don't you change the filter, top it off, and the cut it open and see what the condition the filter is, OR have a UOA done?

Not fair. I wanted to be the one to take GC the distance - 15k miles. I have a 01 BMW 330Ci. She has a 7 quart case and I routinely go 15k miles on M1 0-40 and Castrol Syntec (boo

). Actually, I have 9 quarts of it sitting and waiting to go, but also have a whole case of RP 10-40.

You BITOG folks are cool - been lurking here for quite awhile.

I have a question about this "American" GC - is it really replacing true GC. My Autozone keeps stocking more true GC, even as I buy up their whole inventory.

Cheers.

To answer your question.

YES.

I went 12000 miles and 18 months in my F150 4.6 with Amsoil's 0w30. I would say the GC could do it no problem. Just make sure you change at least once a year.
