Hello everyone,
I am a member on a 350Z forum, the subject of what oil to use comes up regularly. The 350Z has the VQ series engine. I would like to solicit from you all your recommendations...the OCI Nissan recommends is 3750 miles (severe?),based on this and high RPM conditions(at times)what do you guys think? Also, some guys add twin turbos/Superchargers what is their best course? Sorry for low posts count but trust me I link to you guys often! Why else would I ask here? Thanks alot

I have run Mobil 1 5W-30, Valvoline Durablen 5W-30, and Mobil 1 0W-40 in my 350Z. Out of all three, Mobil 1 0W-40 seems to be the best. However, I have recently switched to German Castrol 0W-30. 50miles so far on this oil and it seems to work fine (and a slight increase in MPG over 0W-40. VQ35DE likes thicker 30 wt oils.

The VQ35de actually has some pretty large bearing clearances.
add to that some mysterious bearing damage found in some hard driven engines on mainstream-thin oil and i am going with Rerdline 10w-40 or Mobil 1 15w-50 for summer use as soon as my SC is on the car.
Curently running 5w-40

Putting on a turbo/ supercharger will put extra demands on the engine oil and I would definately go for a synthetic and the best you can afford. Mobil 1 is fine as is some of the boutique oils such as Redline or Motul 300v.

In standard form follow the manuf recommendations based on the type of driving.

If your a member of the forums, you'll know how toothpick like the 350Z's rod's are.

I wouldn't even consider a super/turbo on that car without putting money on the side for a full motor rebuild. Heck one fellow put a twin turbo greedy kit on, posted his UOA on this forum, and blew the motor within the next day.

The car DOES NOT handle boost nicely. Its a high risk FI application, and for every 3 motors that gets boosted, at least 1 bends a rod

.

So in other words, if you want to do a turbo, just put money on the side for a bottom end rebuild with forged components...just in case the motor goes. If it doesn't, your fine...but better to be aware of the frequent issues then to be blind to them.
