I ready go pick up my jeep gc 4.0l 4x4. I ride 9 hours bus to go meet up with the dealer that I bought the car from. He went pick me up at greyhound station with the jeep. It run good . After everything done. He ask me if I want power train warranty for 100 dollar more. I say 50 and he agree give me 3 month or 4k mile power train warranty. Got all payper work done. Went to walmart pick up 2 bottle of techron . Fill the jeep up and ready for 400 miles home. At soon I get in 70 mph the car vibration . I call the dealer and he say it properly need aligment or bad tires. I told him Monday I get those done after I get back . 200 miles later I make a jerking. I heard loud noise and smell smoke. I stop the car right away and look under thr transfer case and front diff is dripping heavy oil. I call the dealer and he say get it to the newest mechanic and let him look at it and he pay for repair. I could not drive so I call 911 they brought the tow truck over and the tow guy say that the car been in 4 wheel drive whole time I was driving. I never touch the shifter and the shifter alway at 2wd position whole time. He agree to fix everything and now I'm just pay the tow guy 172 dollar and 50 dollar for hotel. He say he call me tomorrow. Now I'm 200+ miles away from home and in hotel can't sleep ATM. I hope they fix the problem. Cause thr townl guy say it properly need transfer case and front and rear diff. I don't know wat to do now. Ether go back stay with my friend and wait til they done repair or go home and come back when they done repair.

Ugh. Worst case you can have the local mechanic disconnect your front driveshaft so you can drive it back to the selling dealer, assuming the diff still spins.

If the dealer still has the ad up for your jeep make a pdf of the details in case you have to sue them.

Was it in 4WD normal or part-time? If in normal it should have run OK. If in part-time, not so good, but it should have made some odd sounds when turning. Select-Trac or Quadra-Trac?

Are you saying the vehicle was running in 4WD mode even though the shifter was in 2WD? The transfer case is pretty simple, hard to believe it was in 4WD when the shifter was in 2WD?

Some limited access highways want you to call 911 and stay with the disabled vehicle, instead of becoming a pedestrian and "danger" to others.

Oh the headache!! I sure hope you get everything sorted out. Maybe next time self inspect, test drive, and mechanic inspect next time? Good luck!

I would think you could have got stiffed a lot closer to home and save the time and bus fare.

And this.

I'm beginning to hope that some of the things (stories) you have come up with on this board are just things to keep us entertained. I hope so.

The OP seems to be well informed about vehicles, so I am surprised that he would not have thought of getting the jeep inspected by an independent mechanic.

What is with the OP's writing skills?

Update : got a last call at 4:30 pm today, say some one just return the truck with trailer, I was going to give up hope cause I been calling EVERY WHERE for trailer and truck ( back home my dad and my brother was going to rent a trailer, but when they come hauling it, they say no to my dad cause the truck was too small, they plant to drive their and take me home, good brother and father, make me realise some time ) and plan stay til monday ( I think it will make thing worse if I stay, but im glad I go home ASAP ), I meet up some good peoples and some greedy peoples, like 179 dollar for 4 min town down the street and drop my jeep like [censored], and 1000+ dollar for tow 200 miles home, and some just want pay up front 800+, and some want pay 300 dollar first then 1 dollar each miles after that. I also meet some good peoples helping me out, let me stay in hotel a little longer, make call around asking for truck and trailer, make me lunch

. U hault peoples was very help ful, they did everything to help me, they event extent the time and wait for me to show up at the last min.

here the pix at around 6:00pm sun about go down, and this is my first time ever drive big truck like this and load the car up and everything. very nervous first time driving, but I get use to it after a little while, its actually very easy to drive !.

about the jeep problem, the dealer guy ALWAY text me, helping me think stray, I actually just find out another personal problem back home, that turn into 2 problem at 1 time, but dealer guy was very helpful he keep my mind focus on big thing first, that is the car first. then take care other thing when the car fix. I know the jeep having problem, but its old car, it will break down soon or later, dealer agree to pay wat ever damage, and I hope he keep his word. and also pay for all my other thing, tow truck, u haul, hotel, gas. I kept all receipt, right now im made home ok, just want to rest and have a sunday off, chill out, keep my mind clear, then first thing in the morning monday, I take to my friend mechanic shop and let him look wat the damage was, then I will call my dealer and work thing out.

about the jeep seem like everthing well care, all black leather, no tear or broken, everything is clear, engine look brand new, air filter look brand new, everything look clean, ac blow cold, clear car fax history, pass texas smog test and inspection got sticker on windshield, down here in MS we dont need those inspection, so those sticker will scape off. over all jeep run perfectly find, engine is very smooth, gotta love those bullet proof 4.0L I6 engine. I like the new design, where they use coil on plug, and all 6 plug is one side, and alot of room to work on.

and the problem, from wat I look at, the front diff pinion seal is poop, and rear diff right seal is toast also. transfer case look find, look like its just the seal that bad, but I just gonna tell my mechanic replace whole front diff and rear diff or replace it with heavy duty one if possible, since dealer got warranty.

You know, dealers steam clean the engine compartments, so of course it'll look new under there.

If the dealer is REALLY going to pay your mechanic hundreds of miles away to fix the thing, have him come up with a purchase order or credit card number to authorize repairs ahead of time.

Please keep us posted on this "money pit" scenario.

Like eljefino, I find it nearly impossible to believe that a dealer would eat the higher warranty costs to let someone else repair the vehicle.

You did clear this with the dealer before you towed it home, right?
