I have a buddy that bought one of those mini grease guns that take the 3 oz cartridges. He is having trouble finding top of the line mini cartridges to go in it. This guy has 2 grease fittings in his life and they are tie rod ends on his truck. I offered to grease them myself with Schaeffer grease but he is dead set on doing it himself with the midget grease gun. I told him that I would try to find a decent grease for him but, I know very little about who makes 3 oz tubes. I even offered to dump the existing grease out of one of the tubes and fill it with my grease but he wouldn't go for that, either. I have seen Super Tech, Coastal, and Mag 1 in little tubes but I'm not real thrilled with Lithium. I should let him run whatever soap grease he wants but I can't stand to see someone do that. Long story short, does anyone make a top notch grease in a small cartridge? By the way, I already tried to convince him to get a full size gun and get some good stuff but he wouldn't budge. Thanks for any help.

last time I was at Tractor supply, they had Mystic JT6 multipurpose grease in the small tubes. They may have had the high-temp also, but I can't rem for sure.

04SpecV - Did'nt realize that the JT-6 was also available in aerosal cans, a spray grease would be very convenient for me.

I have a package of the 3 oz. tubes on the upper shelf of my garage workbench, it is very convenient for me to remove the tube cap & use a Q-Tip to apply small amounts of grease to miscellaneous items.

I also have a tube at work to apply grease to small bushings & shafts on high output, automated assembly machines.

IMHO, the Mystic JT6 grease is a good, general purpose, butterscotch colored grease, and can be used in a variety of applications.

Why not reuse the cartridges and hand-pack your favorite grease in them? That's what I've been doing with my cartridges. I've been reusing the same cartridge for 30 years.

I have one of these midget grease guns in my lube kit in my jeep, for reasons of space.

Why not just fill the thing with bulk grease and be done with it? Get him a pack of rubber surgical gloves, show him how to do it, and tell him to have at it. Buy the grease in a 2 pound tub and he ought to be golden.

Surely he's got more than two grease fittings?

Nope, 2 tie rod ends are the only grease fittings in his life.

I found some decent Pennzoil grease that should be okay for his application but I am still trying to convince him to let me fill the cartridge with Schaeffer when he runs out. Oh well, with his maintenance record, he probably won't need anything for 5 years! LOL!

By the way burntkat, I see you live in Charleston, SC. I truly envy you for that. I've tried to get the better half to move there, but she won't budge. I absolutely love that place.

re: 2 grease fitings. What's he driving, a bicycle?

re: Charleston. Um.. ok. If you say so. Rather hate it here. I can feel this place killing brain cells.

Fwiw, most modern cars have no grease fittings at all. You don't like Charleston huh? I found it a rather lovely city. Be grateful, you ought to try living out here in the Land of Fruits and Nuts
