This is the first two oil analyses I've done on my 2024 GMC Sierra Duramax 3.0L LZ0 engine. Both times I've replaced the oil and filter with the ACDelco Dexos D 0W-20 oil and the PF66 filter. First sample was pulled at 5192 miles from the factory fill and the second at 12141 miles with 6949 miles on that oil. I still have enough of the ACDelco oil for one more change, but will move to the ACDelco Gold UPF66R filter next time. Still trying to decide if I'll change to a different oil/filter combo to see if I can get the iron numbers down.

The iron won’t go down. Every sample I’ve seen with DexosD 0w20 has high iron. Its coming from the cylinder liners and valvetrain.

If you switch to a high quality synthetic 0w30/0w40 or 5w30/10w30 if your winter temps allow it, the iron will go down and prevent excessive wear. You can try Mobil 1 ESP, Dexos 2 or go with CK-4.

If I had an LZO I’d be using 10w30 CK-4 at the first oil change.

Thanks for sharing. Looks about as expected for the 3.0 duramax, all the UOAs I have seen, show higher metal number. Did you run the Oil life monitor down to 0%?

No on both changes. Don’t remember exact number on the first reset but it was under 30% life left. This past one was at 8%.

We, let’s watch this and we will decide it that’s true. Do you have any UOA’s to contribute?

“ The iron won’t go down” That’s your quote in posting 8. Still sticking with that?
If you want to engage in semantics, I will entertain you in the assumption you don’t understand what average means.

*The iron won’t go down to a reasonable level (like 3 ppm/1k miles). The average will remain higher than if you used a heavier viscosity oil.

How about that? Is that clear enough?

I believe Wayne is running HPL 5w30 in his now.

Ok great, I’m looking forward to more data on both the Dexos D 0w20 and the amazing HPL 5w30. ;)

Not many stay with GM for oil and filter. Does ExxonMobil make this oil?
That’s my understanding. I switched to M1 esp after 2nd oil change. I have the LM2 on my ‘21. Have never done a uoa and change every 5K and have been using Stp xl filter
