Got the results back for the 7592km stint on the PUP 5w-30. I had some consumption with this oil, about half a litre over the interval. After dumping this I have put in Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 SP. Data sheet says higher viscosity than the Pennzoil, and I really like how the engine feels and sounds on the ESP, smoother, quieter, sounds less harsh running up to redline. Very noticeable especially over the 0W-20. I think ESP will be my oil going forward, as long as the next analysis shows fine, which it should.

I have put a lot of miles on in the last couple weeks, over 2000kms, and zero consumption with the ESP, but it's still early.

Wear numbers are trending down nicely...great news on this low mileage WRX. Si coming down too. What is the PFc column?

I can barely read the legend at the bottom of the report. Looks like Percent Fuel Content.
Every sample I request they do fuel content using gas chromatography, which I think is the most accurate method? Anyway, they always do it for me or maybe they just do it anyway.

The viscosity is pretty decent with that amount of fuel in a WRX IMO. I’m on the fence in regards to sticking with a GF6 5W-30 or maybe bumping up to a C3 5W-30 like you did.

In USA, ESP also available in 0w30. So many recent changes to M1 Euro offerings I don’t deserve to have an opinion, but personally, I would expect more from Mobil or Castrol Euro than Shell. Just my bias…and what I use in an old EJ25T might not be relevant. People talk about approvals being all that is important, but Subaru doesn’t put the bar high enough for oils, like BMW, Porsche, VW or MB do…so we are left to speculate if Euro oils might be best for our boxers…but I think they’ve been good to me…maybe I’ve just been lucky.

That oil eats API licenses for breakfast. Besides, no engine "wants" an API SN PLUS license anyway, API SP supersedes it.
I thought Subaru listed SN PLUS because it was better for GDI due to the lower calcium levels.

For what it is worth, the oil has Mercedes-Benz 229.52 approval which also has an LSPI test. Whether this formulation will continue to pass future more stringent ILSAC tests will be seen but for now it does what is required to obtain both the API license and the MB approval.

Plus this, on the PDS:

This product meets or exceeds the requirements of:
API SP
API SN PLUS

API SN PLUS was an interim license that addressed LSPI concerns. API SP has the LSPI test and requirements that SN PLUS initiated.
Interesting, I wonder why the Pennzoil was recommending Pennzoil Platinum over Ultra for the FA20DIT.

Back when I was all aboard the PUP train (and I still think it’s a great oil), when I would move vehicles over to it there was almost always a small amount of consumption on the first OCI, and subsequent successive OCIs on PUP would not have any loss of level. Not sure why, but it always cleared up on every vehicle.

My longest run on PUP was in my 2011 Fusion was 17.1k miles and had zero makeup oil, FWIW.
