This is my second UOA for this wrx and with 5w30 R&P. numbers all look great except the viscosity decrease. This is why i switched to valvoline euro 5w30 xl iii.

If I should have put this in the other thread i posted, I'm sorry.

Looks great other than the viscosity drop which isn't too surprising from an ILSAC GF-7 oil. No oxidation, good TBN reserve and low wear metals. Could easily do 5k if you wanted to.
Yea i may go back to this. I'm going to run two oci of the valvoline euro xl iii then do a uoa and see.

The viscosity drop is due to the fuel dilution though. Any oil is going to see the same drop if the fuel dilution doesn’t improve
Yea, but the euro oil has a higher starting viscosity. So if it drops from 11.6 to about 10 (just guessing random numbers) isn't that better? Or doesn't matter

There was a discussion a while back about the type of VM and quantity can cause viscosity drop when there is fuel dilution. More VM more viscosity loss.

Good move. My Subaru shreds R&P, and many other oils, with it’s long timing chains. Usually between 2-3k miles the engine gets noticeably louder.

That’s true! Might as well start with something a little thicker when you know it’s going to thin out
That being said, my wear metals are still great with this level of viscosity. So it shouldn't be an issue but I'd rather see how the euro flavor does

Like mentioned R&P looks like it was doing okay. That Euro should have higher HTHS though. Thanks for sharing your WRX UOA.

So I shouldn't worry about sticking with R&P?
Anything to help fuel dilution & shearing is a good thing. Although the R&P shows nothing to be concerned about except for the viscosity drop which doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary these days of "Resource Conserving" made on the lower end of viscosity range. With the XII you may be able to go 5k minimum per change. Just personal choice but w/fuel dilution I'd say the Euro.
