The 4-Runner outperformed the Ranger on this specific test (starts at 22:10). Not a good showing for the Ranger. Still a good truck, no doubt.

Not sure if it was due to the longer wheel base,, lack of weight in rear, tires or Ford's Crawl Control may not be as good as Toyota's.

Why didn't they compare it against a Tacoma?
Because he had a 4-Runner and was not really comparing but checking to see if his test course was too torn up for any vehicle. A Tacoma would have been a more fair comparison for sure. SUV's have better weight distribution across all 4 wheels and I suspect that had something to do with it.

It's the lack of weight in the rear. Lockers only work well if there's a lot of weight over them. That's why I won't spend the money to lock the rear differential over my Jeep. No point since all the weight is in the front.

But OEM's won't do it on independent front suspension trucks. It's a lot hard to break a dana M220 "44" shaft than it is a front CV joint with a locking differential.

Props to GM for putting a front locker in the Colorado.
