This is the dealer fill from a CX-5 we bought from a Mazda dealer. This is my first direct injection vehicle so I will not be pushing the limits of my oil as I have with my Focus, CX-9, Scion XD, etc. I regularly go 15K miles on my port injected engines but will not do that with my direct injected ones. The only thing of interest in this report is the aluminum. Not alarming but noticeable. This thing does have the dreaded cylinder deactivation but the Skyactiv's from what I have read have not had any well know issues like some other makes have with cylinder deactivation. Will wait for the next UOA to see how the aluminum is doing. I went with a higher viscosity, so we shall see. That sample was just sent in this morning. I just got around to sending this sample in.

Looks good. Both Mazdas in my signature have cylinder de-activation. I have not encountered any issues at all, but only have roughly 20K on each engine. Hopefully no issues. From what I have seen, these engines go a long time.

For me, I only do max 5K in any DI engine. I consider DI engines severe use, no matter what (5K is considered severe use interval in the Mazda owners manuals.) Just my .02.

Only thing I did different is I'm using 5W-30 Quaker State Ultimate Protection (going in the CX-5 this weekend.)

Are these Skyactiv engines known for carbon build up ?

QS is a great low cost synthetic oil.
Not that I know of. Definitely no as bad as the German and Korean cars. I may go to Restore and Protect since it hasbeen reported to clean up gummed up rings well.

For you owners with CD, maybe consider over-maintaining the ATF…or see if Mazda will offer a flash to disable CD.
